Luxury vinyl tile, or LVT, gives you the look of real wood or stone with a floor that's waterproof, warm and quiet underfoot. We supply and fit LVT across Exeter and Devon from Karndean, Amtico, Polyflor and Brampton Chase, and Todd fits every floor himself. We bring samples to your home, check the subfloor and give you a clear, no-obligation quote.

What makes LVT different from vinyl

LVT comes as individual planks and tiles, laid one by one like a wood or stone floor. That means real-looking board lengths, grout lines on stone designs and laying patterns such as herringbone. Sheet vinyl comes off a roll in one large piece. It's quicker to fit and usually costs less, but it can't match the realism of LVT.

Karndean

Karndean has one of the widest choices of wood and stone designs, with surface textures that follow the grain of the wood. Its design strips can be laid between planks or around the edge of a room to frame the floor. Karndean is a popular choice for kitchens, hallways and open-plan rooms.

Amtico

Amtico is at the top end of the market. Its designs and surface finishes are among the most realistic, and its laying patterns let you create herringbone, chevron and other layouts that would cost far more in real wood or stone. If you want a statement floor, Amtico is worth seeing.

Polyflor and Brampton Chase

Polyflor and Brampton Chase give you more choice at different price points, with hard-wearing ranges that suit busy family homes, rental properties and lighter commercial spaces. We'll bring samples from all four brands so you can compare them side by side.

Glue-down or click?

Most of the LVT we fit is glued down. It's the most stable and hard-wearing option, but it shows every bump in the floor underneath, so the subfloor has to be smooth. We prepare it with F. Ball or Ardex smoothing compounds before the first plank goes down, and that preparation is included in your quote.

Click LVT locks together and floats over an underlay, like laminate. It can sometimes go over an existing hard floor and is quicker to fit. On the visit we'll tell you which suits your room and subfloor.

Where LVT works best

LVT is waterproof, so it's at home in kitchens, bathrooms, en suites, utility rooms and hallways. Most LVT also works over underfloor heating within the maker's temperature limit, which makes it a good choice for conservatories and garden rooms. For a fully waterproof wet room with a level shower, we fit slip-rated safety vinyl instead; see our wet room flooring page.

Where we fit

We're based at Shillingford Abbot, just outside Exeter, and fit LVT across the city and out to Topsham, Exmouth, Cranbrook, Dawlish, Teignmouth, Newton Abbot, Torquay, the Teign Valley and Dartmoor.

FAQs

Frequently asked questions.

What's the difference between Karndean and Amtico?

Both are leading LVT brands. Karndean has a very wide range of designs at a range of prices. Amtico sits at the premium end, with especially realistic finishes and more laying patterns. We'll bring both to your home so you can compare them.

Can LVT go over underfloor heating?

Yes, most LVT can, as long as the heating stays within the maker's temperature limit. We'll check the product you choose against your system.

Is LVT suitable for bathrooms and wet rooms?

LVT is ideal for bathrooms and en suites because it's waterproof. For a wet room with a level-access shower, where the floor drains water away, we use slip-rated safety vinyl with welded seams instead.

How long does LVT last?

A good-quality LVT floor, glued down on a well-prepared subfloor, will last many years, even in a busy kitchen or hallway. The thickness of the wear layer is the best guide, and we'll explain it when you choose.

Is LVT the same as vinyl?

They're made from similar materials but they're different products. LVT is laid as separate planks and tiles and looks more like real wood or stone. Sheet vinyl comes in one piece off a roll and is quicker and cheaper to fit.

Do you fit herringbone LVT?

Yes. Herringbone and chevron patterns are available from Karndean and Amtico. They take longer to lay than straight planks, which we'll allow for in your quote.
